ACTING President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday set up a Federal Projects Assessment Committee "to assess and provide necessary information on the status of on-going Federal Government projects across the nation."
Also, the Acting President has approved the reconstitution of the Presidential Monitoring Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The developments are coming on the heels of the setting up of Presidential Advisory Council by Jonathan.
The Committee, which is to be chaired by Ibrahim Bunu, an architect, with Mr. Bon Otti as Vice-Chairman, would be inaugurated by the Acting President tomorrow.
It has three months to complete its assignment and submit a report to the government.
The presidential committee would, under its terms of reference:
* Take inventory of all on-going projects awarded by the Federal Government;
* assess the level of funding of each project;
* undertake a physical inspection of each project to determine work done and to ascertain whether it is commensurate to the amount paid to the contractors;
* evaluate the professional competence of the contractors handling the various projects;
* determine whether the level of execution of the projects is in accordance with the terms of the contract agreement between the Federal Government and the contractor;
* examine a plan of action that is realistic, practical and achievable including implementation phases for the execution of the projects;
* examine the reason given if applicable why the projects were not executed in accordance with the terms of contract agreement at the time of the award; and
* make appropriate recommendations to government on how to fast-track the completion of the projects.
The other members of the committee are Mr. Iboro Ege-Edaba, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, Prof. Aminu Mikailu, Dr. Idris Abubakar, Engr. Pius Okpa, Mrs. Kate Okparake, Engr. Usman Abubakar, Engr. Gbola Tokun, Engr. Etodo Inyang, Prof. Akoh N. Ugbabe, Engr. Ummi Aminu, Engr. Olusegun Adedeji, Engr. Khalil Inuwa and Engr. B. K. Mohammed.
Dr. O. O Oluleye of the Office of Secretary of the Government of the Federation is Member/Secretary.
The 10-member of NDDC's Presidential Monitoring Committee would ensure effective and easier management of the commission and is in accordance with Section 21(i) of the NDDC Act, which empowers the President to appoint members of the Presidential Monitoring Committee on NDDC.
The committee members include Chief Isaac O. Jemide (Chairman), Prof. Richard P. King, Mr. Akene Furoebe, Mr. Richard Anetekhai, Mr. Innocent Nyengerifaka, Engr. Rabiu D. Abubakar, Alhaji Bello Maccido, Mr. Kanu Chiemezia Joel, Prof. Akinkube Oladepo, Mr. Reuben Ade and the Director (Parastatals, OSGF) as Secretary.
The committee will also be inaugurated by the Acting President at the Presidential Villa tomorrow.
